Appointed by the governor of Texas, the Board of Regents is the governing body of the University of North Texas System, which consists of the University of North Texas, the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth, and UNT at Dallas.

Job Summary
The Board Secretary will be responsible for developing and preparing agendas and related materials for full board meetings and committee meetings, including the tracking of agenda items and the drafting and editing of agendas, agenda items, and background materials for board meetings. This position will be located at the UNT System Building (1901 Main Street, Dallas TX, formerly know as Universities Center at Dallas).

Job Description
The Board Secretary will be responsible for providing overall executive-level planning, coordination and facilitation of work for the UNT System Board of Regents to enable it to effectively govern the System. The Board Secretary performs responsible and often highly sensitive and confidential administrative work, as well as special assignments delegated by the Chancellor and/or Board of Regents without close supervision.

Examples of work include:

  • Arrange and manage Board and committee meetings and regent orientation, including the preparation and distribution of meeting materials, correspondence, and the drafting of minutes.
  • Draft correspondence and other documents for the Board Chairman, members and Chancellor.
  • Manage the permanent records of the Board, including records of Board business and minutes of meetings.
  • Manage communications with the Board and deal directly with members of the Board as they interact with the System and Institution representatives in connection with their regent responsibilities.
  • Conduct research projects on behalf of the Board and Chancellor.
  • Prepare Board documents, including resolutions, remarks, and greetings.
  • Manage the Board website and publications.
  • Custodian of the Board's seal, including authentication of acts of the Board as appropriate
  • Work with the System and Institution representatives to plan, design, and manage regent events including the selection, supervision, and payment of vendors and program participants.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the office and staff members.
  • Develop and manage the operating budget, including purchasing and procurement services for meeting expenses, consultants performing work for the Board, and Board travel.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting, and authorizing personnel expenditures for casual and/or temporary employees, service contracts, and equipment purchases.
  • Handles inquiries from constituents and other individuals contacting the Board of Regents and Chancellor, and has frequent interaction with senior level personnel, and external public.  

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressive experience in high-level administrative environment or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Discretion and the ability to maintain confidences
  • Ability to work effectively with members of the Board of Regents, students, faculty, staff, and the community
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and constituents
  • Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed

Must have a valid Texas driver's license (or ability to obtain). Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications for the position include experience with website management and experience working in higher education institutions.
