Pegasus H.S. honored by U.S. News & World Report Pegasus School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, a charter school located in the UCD, was one of 10 schools in Dallas County named as America’s Best High Schools by US News and World Report. Pegasus students exceeded the expected state of Texas proficiency standards and received the US News and World Report Bronze Medal Award. Pegasus is located on the third floor of the Universities Center at Dallas, in the heart of Downtown Dallas, and home of the UNT System Chancellor’s Dallas Office. |

System architect featured in D Magazine UNT System Associate Vice Chancellor for System Facilities Raynard O. Kearbey, was Architect, NCARB, and senior project manager at SMU when he was part of a team developing a "green" building (second from right, left). Kearbey says his work on the award-winning Embrey building was “extremely rewarding” and has resulted in major changes in the way he has constructed buildings ever since. He is now bringing that environmental expertise to the UNT System. |

UNT & Dallas partner on Police Institute UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson speaks at a press conference at Dallas Police Headquarters where the Communities Foundation of Texas announced the foundation of the W. W. Caruth, Jr. Dallas Police Institute. The Institute will promote best practices among law enforcement officers and serve as an urban police research laboratory. It will be housed on the UNT Dallas Campus once additional facilities have been constructed. |

Students present NFTE business plans at UCD Students competed for start-up funding for their own businesses as part of the NFTE competitions designed to foster entrepreneurship at the middle- and high-school levels. Every student has to write, present and defend a business plan based on one economic unit of sale in front of a panel of judges, volnuteer local business persons who donate their time. |

System given Dream Study Award for Dallas vision The Dream Study Award category of the Greater Dallas Planning Council's Urban Design Awards was awarded for the UNT System's vision of downtown Dallas. The plan was lauded for the academic and administrative concepts developed through a strong collaboration between the UNT System and the City of Dallas. |

UNT System, UCD and DISD help seniors apply for college The Universities Center at Dallas (UCD), the University of North Texas System, and the Dallas Independent School District sponsored a program at UCD designed to help 700 DISD seniors get into colleges next fall. The students, from eight high schools in the Superintendent’s Learning Community — those having a low number of students attending colleges and universities — attended two key-skills sessions, Admission Application & Financial Aid and Essay Writing for Admission and Scholarships. |

UNT System hosts job shadowing day at UCD On October 31, 20 students came to the Universities Center at Dallas (UCD) for a day of job shadowing as a result of extensive planning by the UNT System. The participation of UCD faculty members, administrators and staff and industry professionals were designed to be academically motivating, linking the students' academic courses to real-world careers. |
