"We were pleased that our proposal was given overwhelming approval in the Texas Senate and unanimous support in the Texas House Committee on Higher Education. We came much farther than in 2005", says UNT System Chancellor Lee F. Jackson. "Legislators are now aware of the need in our area, and they appreciate our strong financial partnership with the City of Dallas. I remain confident that with the dedicated support of area legislators and the City of Dallas we will receive approval and open a law school in the next several years. We remain committed to providing affordable, public legal education to the citizens of the North Texas region, which is the nation's largest metropolitan area not to have a public law school." The UNT System continues to develop plans for the College of Law, including further architectural and engineering and renovation work on the old Dallas Municipal Building, and curricular and library planning in consultation with the American Bar Association. Staff is meeting with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board so that when it is ultimately authorized, the UNT System will be ready to move promptly toward enrollment of students in the UNT College of Law in the fall semester of 2010 or 2011.
