The Dream Study Award category of the Urban Design Awards is presented for plans that exhibit a positive urban design vision. The UNT System Downtown Master Plan is a comprehensive concept that includes education in the arts, economic development, technology and the UNT College of Law.
The plan was lauded for the academic and administrative concepts developed because of the strong collaboration between the UNT System and the City of Dallas. UNT Board of Regents members Dr. Charles D. Mitchell of Oak Cliff and Jack A. Wall of Dallas accepted the award with UNT System Chancellor Lee F. Jackson.
Four other area projects were given awards and the Council’s Kessler Award was presented to Willis C. Winters, AIA, assistant director of the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department.
Receiving the Urban Design Award in the Built category were One Arts Plaza, Kessler Woods, and a joint project, the Plano Courtyard Theater and Cox School. The other Dream Study category winner was The Trinity Strand project.
The awards were presented at the Planning Council reception in the Highland Park Pump House December 4.
